Experimental research of wave overtopping on sloping dikes

    Abstract:

    The study of overtopping is of great importance to the design of sloping dikes.Through the physical model test,the influence of wave height,wave steepness and superelevation of embankment on the wave length of slope is studied and the effect of four different types of protection surface is compared.The results of the test show that:the overtopping of sloping dike decreases with the decrease of effective wave height and the increase of wave steepness;the wave of the slope increases with the rise of the top of the embankment and decreases exponentially;the protection form has certain influence on the wave length of the slope dike,and the effect of wave elimination between the accoropode and the barrier plate is not very different,and both are better than the four corners.Comparing the result of the physical model test and that calculated by the exiting formulas about the overtopping volume,Chen Guo-ping’s formula is recommended as the calculation formula for the wave overtopping on sloping dikes.
