The vibro-replacement gravel pile was first introduced to China by CCCC Water Transportation Consultants Co., Ltd. and Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute in 1977, and has been widly developed and applied extensively during the past 30 years. This paper describes a successful project using vibro-replacement gravel piles for ground treatment in the hydraulic-fill foundation, which proves that the use of vibro-replacement growel piles for strengthening filled soft soil with undrained shear strength less than 20 kPa gets satisfactory results. Thus it may serve as a reference for similar engineering.
