    • Regulation ideas and project layout in Kou’anzhi waterway

      Abstract:Kou’anzhi waterway is an important part in the second phase of the regulation project of 12.5 m deep water channel from Nanjing to mouth in the Yangtze River. According to the measured topographic data in past years,we analyze the riverbed evolution trends in Kou’anzhi waterway and form the treatment thoughts of 12.5 m deep water channel in Kou’anzhi waterway with relevant engineering schemes put forward. Applying the 2-D tidal current and sediment mathematical model,we evaluate the scheme effects. The calculated results reveal that:1)the river regime of Kou’anzhi waterway is steady substantially;2)the transition part shoal exists in the broadening segment of the left branch of Luochengzhou,in which,the channel conditions varies with the hydrological processes;3)the erosion and deposition in Manyusha shoal change frequently in different hydrological years,but the erosion and atrophy are the major prospect of sand variations in Manyusha due to abrupt reduction of the sediment from upstream. Therefore,the essential thoughts of the channel regulation are mainly stabilizing the protective engineering in the head of Luochengzhou and Manyusha shoal,and combining the spur and submerged dike to increase the erosion ability of shallow areas. The objective of 12.5 m deep water channel can be obtained by taking engineering measures.

    • Simulation of regular wave up-lift force on horizontal plate structures

      Abstract:To study the specialties of wave up-lift force on horizontal plate structures,we establish two-dimensional regular wave numerical models based on the software FLUENT. RANS equations and standard k-ε equations are adopted and VOF method is used to reconstruct the free surface. Firstly,three typical cases of wave slamming on horizontal plate structures are simulated. Using the low-pass filter method,we obtain the slowly-varying sections from the up-lift force signals. Based on the comparison of the simulated and experimented results,we verify the effectiveness of the model. We also discuss the influence of wave steepness,structure geometry and the distance between underside of horizontal plate and still water level on the maximum slowly-varying force. Finally,the empirical slowly-varying force formulas are provided.

      Abstract:The tidal numerical model of Longqiwan port is established based on the measured hydrologic data,and the research on water particle motion and exchange is carried out for different planning schemes. Research shows that water particle motion change at Longqiwan port’s east side is not obvious in different planning schemes. From water particle motion effect perspective,it is not significant effect to improve water exchange from different planning schemes,especially it will increase the pollution of coastal location in offshore schemes. Tidal inlet does not play significantly role in improving the water exchange for the harbor. Overall,the original plan is more suitable for the current planning requirements.

      Abstract:In the engineering survey of Yangtze River waterway,the correction of length deformation in Gauss projection is especially important. The rapid static positioning can quickly acquire the accurate coordinate and baseline information. In case that the influence of the earth curvature on horizontal distance can be ignored,this paper illuminates an original method which employs the exact baseline information acquired by rapid static positioning to calculate the real distance using the baseline horizontal projection on ellipsoid tangent plane,and finally corrects the length deformation. The results indicate that,the deviations between corrected distance and the corresponding distance measured by the total stations are all at cm level,and the maximum deviation is 1.4 cm,which satisfies the requirement of the engineering survey of the Yangtze River waterway.

      Abstract:For Doha port project,according to the indoor environment parameters of the tropical coastal desert climate,we use the alternating temperature and humidity chamber to simulate the tropical desert climate features for typical mix proportion of C30,C40 and C50 and study the effect on fresh concrete slump,setting time and remodeling time. The effect law of environment role factors is established on the new mix concrete construction performance,and the function relationship between environment role factors and new mix concrete construction performance is established too. Concrete temperature-stress testing is conducted to evaluate the crack resistance of concrete in mass concrete temperature field and the strong interaction constraints of boundary conditions to provide reference for the quality control of mass concrete construction for coastal tropical desert climate.

    • Experimental study on mechanical performance of clay-based solidified material used in hydraulic engineering

      Abstract:Clayey soil from waterway regulation engineering is used as the main raw material to prepare clay-based solidified material. The traditional inorganic combinative material such as cement,gypsum lime and slag are used as solidified agents. The results show that the optimal mixing ratio of clay solidified material is 65% of clayey soil,18% of cement,2.0% of gypsum,and 3.0% of lime. The 28 d compressive,splitting tensile and the immersion strength of the solidified material are 25.6 MPa,2.5 MPa and 24.1 MPa respectively. This solidified material can replace ordinary concrete to make ballast block used in port and waterway engineering and meet the needs of hydraulic applications.

      Abstract:To study the effect of the container crane to the seismic performance of the wharf structure,we study the dynamic response characteristics of the wharf structure under the seismic actions of different peak accelerations and near-field and far-field ground motions based on the 3D finite element model of crane-wharf structure. The effects of the dynamic response of container crane to the wharf structure dynamic characteristics under different seismic actions are analyzed. The study shows that the container crane has a significant impact on the natural vibration characteristics of the pile-supported wharf structure,making the period of the structure extended. Considering the container crane,the moment extremum of the pile-top gets decreased significantly. With the decrease of the shear force extremum,the position where the extreme value occurs gets down obviously. These will change the failure mechanism of the wharf structure. The near-field earthquake has the most significant impact on the structural dynamic response,which will be the main controlling factor of the elastic-plastic limit state.

      Abstract:A three-dimensional model test about Suizhong district of Huludao harbor is conducted and the enhanced Boussinesq equations are used to simulate the wave conditions of different layout schemes in the harbor. Influences of breakwater’s structure type,breakwater gap’s direction and width,the channel,and structures of the harbor boundaries are studied. The results show that selecting proper harbor layout types will diminish the wave height in harbor effectively and provide a scientific guidance for the optimization of general harbor layout planning. Besides,the limitations of physical model test and math model test are discussed to provide a method of combining both to research harbor planning.

      Abstract:The seismic design for the gravity quay wall is an important research for hydraulic structures. A 2D numerical model,representing PC1 berth located in Port Island,Kobe,which was damaged in the 1995 Kobe earthquake,is developed by ABAQUS to simulate the seismic behavior. This paper considers the interaction between soil and structure,and the role of wave filtering by infinite element boundaries. The results show that the horizontal displacements and vertical settlements at caisson top’s sea side are 2.53 m and 1.11 m respectively. Compared with the measured data,the error is controlled within 1.7%. This verifies the accuracy of the model. The plastic damage in the foundation is the main reason for the structural damage. Soil under the front toe of caisson is stress concentration area and should be paid attention to. The peak equivalent stress in this area,which shall be paid attention to in the seismic design,reaches 0.8 MPa.

      Abstract:The coal terminal area of Rizhao port is planned to be renovated and its revetment is qualified to be restored into a tourist and leisure beach. Based on the analysis of the natural condition and beach evolution law,this paper proposes the reforming plan for the beach and points out key technical problems to be solved. The port facilities located at the city center being removed and returned for city use as well as the industrial shoreline ecological restoration will become a new development tendency of the harbor city. In that way,this project is a typical representative.

      Abstract:Based on the second-stage engineering of Shenjiawan passenger terminal,we carry out a physical model experiment to study the uplift wave force distribution of the piled double baffles permeable wharf. The results show that the relative wave height(Hd),relative wave length(Ld),back baffle structure and relative underwater penetration of the back baffle (t2d)have obvious effects on the uplift wave force. Comparing the uplift wave force measured in the experiment and calculated by different formulas,we find that when the relative underwater penetration of the back baffle is equal to or less than 0.65,the formula derived by Zhou Yiren is more applicable to calculate the biggest uplift wave pressure on the face plate. While the formula derived by Guo Da is more applicable when the relative underwater penetration of the back baffle is more than 0.65.

      Abstract:Taking the construction of automobile Ro-Ro terminal of Dalian port at Dayao bay north shore for example,based on statistics of car-carrier ships calling at Dalian port in recent years,focusing on the enlargement tendency of ships,and with reasonably oriented berth level,berth numbers and reserve capacity,we make sure that the proposed project can be adapted to worldwide main car-carrier fleet and the developing ship type,to enhance the competitiveness of Dalian port in the marine automobile transportation competition. Based on the above-mentioned materials,and according to the domestic prevailing specifications and actual ship type calling at berth,we carry out the study of quay length and quay surface elevation,to serve as reference for similar projects.

      Abstract:This paper focuses on the relationship between the movement characteristics of flow(and suspended sediment)and erosion(and deposition)near bottom in the deep navigation channel of the north passage in the Yangtze estuary. Based on the model for calculating the sediment flux near the bottom and observation data,the key parameters,such as the settling velocity and settling probability of sediment,are selected and calibrated. Eventually the calculation model for back-siltation in the deep navigation channel of the north passage is established and discussed. The calculated results by this model fit well the measured data.

      Abstract:To counter the problem of cracks which are easily occurred in the horizontal sliding door lock head during construction,we try to exert prestress to the gate chamber.Combining Fortran language and ANSYS finite element analysis software,we analyze the process of pouring and get the stress distribution at the loch chamber,and carry out comparative analysis of the temperature stress before and after exertion of the stress.The result reveals that after exerting the prestress,the maximum tensile stress at the loch chamber decreases from 1.98 MPa to 1.80 MPa,which is lower than the control standard of concrete stress.It verifies that the method of prestress is feasible for preventing and curing the crack of the gate chamber.

      Abstract:Based on a series of observation data, experimental results and literature achievements, this paper systematically explores some controversial issues concerning the back-silting phenomenon in the Yangtze estuary deep-water channel, and proposes some new viewpoints of the swale sediment exchange in the mouth bar: 1)The impacts come from three aspects, i.e. temperature, salinity and upstream runoff-sediment conditions, which exists separately but works dependently. These factors have little influence on back-silting of the north deep-water channel; 2)There are several processes related to the back-silting including the mouth bar turbidity zone, high sand content near the bottom, the sediment transport overtopping the north dikes, dam fields siltation, marginal bank slope, river bed compactness, stratification and turbulence effect. They are well consistent but dependently exists, so they can’t influence the siltation independently; 3)The wave action is still the basic dynamical cause of the siltation, which aims at guiding the swale sediment exchange development to the direction of“beach-erosion and channel-siltation”.

      Abstract:Based on topographies from 2004 to 2014 and using the Kring interpolation method and mathematical statistics method,we analyze the morphological evolution of Sitan reach and illustrate the scouring-erosion variation characteristics of channel. We also analyze the influence of the discharge and sediment variation and channel regulation upstream on the morphological evolution. The results show that the overall Sitan reach is in the state of erosion from 2004 to 2014,during which the scouring is severel from 2007 to 2013. The analysis shows that the main reason for the undercutting of riverbed from 2004 to 2014 is the sharp decrease in sediment discharge from upstream due to the construction of more and more dams. The sand blocking effect by Changzhou Dam since 2007 and the channel regulation project from 2008 to 2010 are the main reasons for the sharp erosion during 2007 and 2013. The river bed undercutting leads to the lower water level but will not affect the navigation depth.

      Abstract:Yundong ship lock is located at the beginning point of Tongyang navigation channel which is one of main channels in Jiangsu province. The old lock is planned to be replaced by a greater new one. A physical model of 1:40 scale ratio is applied to study the effects of some management measures and engineering ones on water wave and flow. The results show that long valve opening time could lower the peak value of flow rate,therefore the water surface slope,water wave and water flow could be reduced. Plants revetment could cut down long wave energy effectively. Hollow caisson structure has positive effect on reducing impact force against the channel walls and the miter gate,and the longer of hollow caisson structure revetment is,the better effects it produces.

    • Navigable flow conditions in entrance area of lower approach channel of curved reach

      Abstract:The approach channel of the lock in the downstream of the curved reach is not only restricted by the bend flow,but also affected by the bending water from the broadening riverbed. The energy of reflux and oblique nearby the entrance area is great and with a large range,and the flow condition is unfavorable. Thus it is difficult to meet the requirement of safe navigation. Based on the hydraulic principle and flow motion law and combining with the variation characteristics of the curved reach,we put forward the engineering measure that setting the pier for deflecting flow on the outside of approach channel nearby the entrance area,and adopting the entity and open-piled guide wall. Model test results show that this measure can adjust the flow direction,construct the water area of slow flow,completely eliminate the reflux and oblique,improve the navigable flow condition,and ensure the safe navigation.

      Abstract:In the construction process of sand compaction pile,we often encounter the difficulties such as fail of penetrating through the hard interlayer and bursting of the pipe pile. Adopting the high-sensitivity & good- reliability test data of fiber grating FBG sensor to implement tress test for the pile body and pile end,we get to know the relationship between the dynamic side friction and static side friction,static resistance and static end resistance under different soil conditions during piling of the sand compacted pile,which is an important guidance for the selection of hammer type and feasibility analysis. According to the pile stress monitoring result,we know that the eccentric action is the main cause for the bursting of pipe pile. So,it is very important to control the verticality of the pile body during construction.

      Abstract:This paper studies the value of the recovery coefficient of soil (K),the effective transfer coefficient of hammer energy(n)and the total elastic deformation of the pile-soil system(C)using dynamic measurement method based on the third phase container terminal of Yantian port. A method is obtained to calculate the ultimate bearing capacity of pile with 1 200 mm and 1 000 mm more conveniently and accurately and to determine the penetration(e)of the final hammer.

      Abstract:According to the research on the second-line lock engineering of Taizhou irrigation channel Gaogang hydraulic schemes and based on the ABAQUS platform,we establish the whole finite element model of sheet-pile structures,which can be employed to predict the deformation behavior of anchor pile and underground retaining wall,and the internal force state of the bar in different stages of the construction period. Moreover,based on the model,we probe into the influence of the bar arrangement for the underground retaining wall’s sheet-pile structure. soil excavation in the lock chamber,and soil filling scheme behind the wall on the sheet-pile structure system。 The research result reveals that excavation exerts the greatest influence on the internal force and deformation of the sheet-pile wall;Both the bar number and bar elevation shall be reasonable to avoid greater tensile stress on the underground retaining wall;The construction mode of excavating the chamber soil first and filling behind the sheet-pile wall later is more favorable for the overall stress and deformation of the anchor system.

      Abstract:The compound foundation,which supports the upper load by both the matrix and the reinforcement,has good engineering characters and great economic advantages. In silty soil,the flexible piles,such as cement mixed piles and crushed stone piles are used for the compound foundation,but the rigid piles,like precast pipe piles,are seldom adopted. Taking the Danjin shiplock as the research object,this paper discusses the idea for revetment soft foundation treatment and foundation selection,and design parameters of compound foundation. Combining with the field test and observation,we analyze the parameter selection and carries out a comparison between the pipe pile compound foundation and the deep mixed pile compound foundation,to serve as reference for the construction and perfection of standards for similar engineering projects.

      Abstract:During construction of the cellular sheet pile in clay,great difficulty is occasionally met because of the interlocking forces between the sheet piles surges when cellular sheet piles penetrate into specific geological layer such as the hard clay. This paper presents a new method to evaluate the impact of alluvium clay on cellular sheet pile construction based on HKBCF project. A new parameter based on CPT tests is applied to determine the difficulty of penetrating process of sheet piles. The results may serve as reference for similar engineering construction.

      Abstract:Taking the Suez Canal container terminal phase II marine works for example,and aiming at the technical measures adopted by the 56 m3 grab dredger in the construction of the basin and revetment,we put forward the new improved method of large capacity hydraulic grabs in the revetment. The results indicate that the new method has an advantage over the traditional ones in the control and operation of dredging. So it is awarded for its excellent jobs and effective control of the over-depth and over-width of the slop. It also benefits for the contracture of the armor layer and mixing filter layer,and thus reduces the construction cost.

      Abstract:In installation of prefabricated members of high-pile wharf,the floating crane is used traditionally. In some projects with bad weather and complex sea condition,by installation by floating crane faces many problems,such as slow installation,great investment of supporting ships and machines,low utilization rate,great cost and safety risks. This article introduces a dock prefabricated hoisting technique,which changes the water construction to the land construction,and which has the advantages of quick installation,less risks,high accuracy and low cost,and thus is especially advantageous in unsheltered sea area.
