    • Operation status and characteristics of 12.5 m navigation channel in the Yangtze River estuary

      2015(9):1-5.

      Abstract (1033) HTML (0) PDF 924.27 K (222) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Based on the information from the shipping management system (VTS) and the statistical data on the Yangtze River cargo transport from the Ministry of Transport, this paper analyzes the operating conditions and characteristics of the 12.5 m navigation channel, and discusses the strategy and suggestion on alleviating the navigable pressure of the deepwater channel. The research shows that the Yangtze estuary waterway cargo’s throughput achieves a rapid growth and the trend of “heavy in-light out” is more obvious. The ship operation organization changes to a certain extent, and the trend of ship enlargement becomes obvious.Especially, the number of over control type ship (the width is over 45 m) grows up sharply, and the bidirectional navigation ability of the 12.5 m main channel is insufficient. For relieving the navigation pressure of the Yangtze estuary deepwater channel in the current and next period of time, the execution pace of the Yangtze estuary waterway system construction should be accelerated, and the research on the feasibility of main channel’s broadening of the Yangtze estuary is strengthened in time.

    • Numerical model of focusing wave based on two-layer Boussinesq equations

      2015(9):10-15.

      Abstract (995) HTML (0) PDF 1.34 M (136) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:The predictor-corrector-iteration algorithm in the framework of finite difference method was applied to solve one-dimensional version of two-layer Boussinesq equations, creating a numerical wave tank for focusing wave in time domain.A fourth-order composite Adams-Bashforth-Mouton scheme was adopted for time integration. The internal wave method of summing multi-frequency wave components was used to realize wave focusing in computational domain.Numerical experiments were conduct to reproduce the laboratory measurements of Baldock, and the agreements between the computed results and experimental data were good.Further discussions were carried out to investigate nonlinear effect on the computed results of focusing wave by considering different levels of nonlinearity (strong nonlinearity, weak nonlinearity and linearity) in the numerical model. The results show that nonlinearity plays a very important role in accurately modeling focusing wave. The present model with strong nonlinear terms presents the best results, the weakly nonlinearity presents reasonable results, while the linear model presents the worst.

    • Oblique water wave-induced seepage effects on vertical breakwater resting on permeable seabed

      2015(9):16-22.

      Abstract (1002) HTML (0) PDF 1.25 M (155) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Based on Biot seepage consolidation theory and wave diffraction theory, the analytical solutions to the diffracted water wave potentials and the wave-induced seepage pressures referring to vertical breakwater resting on permeable elastic seabed are derived by applying the eigenfunction expansion approach, and then the wave-induced lift force and overturning moment caused by the seepage pressure on the bottom of vertical breakwater are accordingly evaluated and compared with the direct wave force and moment. The numerical results demonstrate that in certain condition, the wave-induced seepage loads may have the same order of magnitude as the direct wave loads. The variation of incident wave angle, porous on the front surface of breakwater and structure geometry under ocean condition may have some influences on wave-induced seepage loads, especially on the wave-induced seepage overturning moment.

    • Model test of permeable pile double baffle structure of wave transmission coefficient

      2015(9):23-27.

      Abstract (1240) HTML (0) PDF 1.06 M (146) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:This paper investigates the impact factors of permeable pile structure (including wave steepness, the relative immersed depth of the piled baffle and openings) using the physical model experiment method, and gives the influential law of various factors on the transmission coefficient. The experimental result indicates that the relative immersed depth of the piled baffle and wave steepness have a negative correlation with the transmission coefficient. The impact of baffle openings for the transmission coefficient is relatively small, but it can effectively reduce the wave forces.Comparing the experimental result with various wave transmission coefficients’ theoretical formula and empirical formula given by the specification, the Wiegel formula matches well with the result got in this study,so it can be used for reference for the design.

      Abstract (1217) HTML (0) PDF 1.74 M (161) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Based on the previous research on wave forces of perforated caisson,we further study wave forces at the forefront of the perforated caisson with permeable superstructure through physical model tests of irregular waves.Analyzing the regular pattern of pressure distribution and comparing it with the existing formula of wave pressure,we find that the formula can be modified based on the Aida Yoshizane formula which is applied to the calculation of the pressure distribution of the upper structure’s panel and the forefront of the lower part of perforated caisson with permeable superstructure. The stringers of the upper structure suffer greater relative point pressure. So,the relative wave pressure of stringers is studied separately and the empirical formula for calculating relative wave pressure is provided here.

      2015(9):71-73.

      Abstract (1102) HTML (0) PDF 1.42 M (137) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:This paper discusses the variation law of factors (metacentric radius, distance from the gravity center to the buoyant center, metacentric height and draft of caisson) impacting the floating stability of the rectangular caisson with the change of the unit weight of concrete and the height of ballast water in the front compartments of the caisson in some port. The results show that if the ballast water in front compartments of the caisson remains the same, the metacentric radius and the distance from the gravity center to the buoyant center will decrease with the increase of unit weight of concrete, but the metacentric height and the draft of caisson will increase. The initial stable equilibrium of the caisson will be changed into unstable equilibrium because of higher water level in the front compartments of the caisson. The risk is not included in the codes and should be considered in design. The decrease of the height of ballast water in the front compartments of the caisson under the premise of satisfying the floating stability is necessary for the construction.

      Abstract (1015) HTML (0) PDF 1.44 M (128) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:The yacht dock is a new structure form in China. In order to facilitate the getting on and off the yacht, the yacht docks are mostly floating structures and the guiding pile is widely used as a type of anchorage. The displacement caused under the horizontal load is large on the all-straight-pile yacht.Besides, the floating dock’s mass itself is also small. So it is easy to cause the dynamic response of the wharf structure under the harmonic wave load or berthing impact.Thereby,it will increase the guiding pile’s internal force and reduce the structure safety. The paper analyzes the dynamic response of the guiding-pile yacht under the berthing and wave load by the method of finite element and on the basic of the theory. The paper also derives the simple calculation method for the piece of yacht wharf structure, which lays a basis for the design work.

      2015(9):112-116.

      Abstract (880) HTML (0) PDF 1.59 M (124) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:The second Minjiang river bridge to be built locates 1.4 km downstream of Zhushitan, the 215 m-long main navigable hole of which locates on the right side of the channel, and the linking of which to the new groove faces a big problem. At present, the old groove is not deep enough for the passing of large transport ships. The 2-D flow sediment mathematical model is established, and the similarity is verified by the measured data. The calculating results of the water line, the velocity distribution and the river bed scour are consistent with the measured data,so the accuracy meets the specification requirements. To reach the IV channel standard and meet the need of large transport ships,we compare the schemes of old groove and new groove. The results show that the mathematical model can simulate the movement of the river flow and sediment deposition process of navigation channel. It shows that three schemes all have their own advantages and disadvantages from the regulation effect (the flow condition for navigation, navigation channel stability,etc.).Relatively speaking, the old groove scheme is better, since it can meet the requirements of the channel’s navigation condition.

      Abstract (874) HTML (0) PDF 2.53 M (133) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Taking Zhushi rapids in the Minjiang river for example,we analyze the impacts of large-scale sand dredging on the riverbed evolution and channel conditions of rapids at the curved channel. The riverbed erosion of Zhushi rapids maintained a balance before the sand dredging. The riverbed erosion balance was destroyed and the riverbed dropped severely after the sand dredging. The severe siltation happened from the upstream to the downstream in the flood season. The impacts of large-scale sand dredging on the channel conditions are destroying channel boundary, reducing river water level, increasing upstream water surface slope, etc. The original stable curved channel was abandoned due to the lack of water depth.Waterway changed to go unstable straight channel, which created difficulties for the channel maintenance.Sand dredging also resulted in disordering of riverbed topography and big cross-flow in waterway, which is dangerous for the ships sailing.
