Abstract:As a bending and branching river, Fujiangsha waterway is the only watercourse where three channels can navigate in Nanjing-Taicang reach of the Yangtze River. Due to the special river configuration and complex water-sediment movement, it is quite difficult to select a primary navigable branch in building the 12.5 m deep-water channel. The waterway has a broad riverbed on which sediment from the upper reach is mostly deposited. In addition, affected by the tide, erosion and sedimentation of the riverbed tend to change periodically. Based on a long-term understanding of regular patterns for water-sediment movement in this waterway, it is concluded from an analysis on integrated river regime conditions of the southern, northern and middle channels that: 1) since the southern channel is too bend and narrow, sedimentation at the convex bank makes it difficult to be controlled and maintained, especially a “S”-shaped reverse sharp bend is adverse to the safe passage of large ships; 2) both northern and middle channels have foundation conditions of building a one-lane navigation channel. A branch selection proposal is presented, namely “the two channels in north branch is constructed into a 12.5 m deep-water channel where a ship can sail in a traffic lane manner, and the southern branch keeps its existing condition as a good deep-water channel”.

Abstract:The stable weight of armor blocks of sloping breakwaters is calculated by Hudson formula, yet it is indefinite for its safety level. The concept of safety factor for armor blocks and its value of KN=2.2 is given in this paper. Model experiments certify that the value of safety factor is appropriate. The safety factor can be used in determining the stable weight of armor blocks, the coefficient of stability for new-type armor blocks, and in checking the rationality of stability coefficient for all kinds of armor blocks.

Abstract:Settling (falling) velocity, which is a sensitive and fundamental parameter for each sedimentary researcher, determines the vertical dynamics of sediment and the near-bed deposition flux directly, and its accurate determination has been regarded as a top priority in improving numerical models and understanding of fine sediment transport. During the past studies, hundreds of empirical or semi-empirical formulae are proposed by different laboratory experiments, in-situ observations or theoretical analysis. Even though, it’s also very hard for the engineers to choose a suitable and self-confident varied or definite value of fine sediment velocity. Based on extensive domestic and abroad literature study, we present a review on the topic of methods, factors and empirical formulae of the fine sediment settling velocity.

Abstract:So far, the detailed design method of the pile-to-pile cap connection by shear keys has not been provided in various design codes, and the design theory of the shear key connection has not been fully developed. Based on the existing research progress, this paper describes several important failure modes, and discusses potential design methods for the shear key connection of steel tubular piles. The findings of this paper may significantly support the development of design methods for the shear-key pile-to-pile cap connections.

Abstract:For the purpose of enlarging the area of the storage yard, reducing spoil transportation, beautifying the harbor environment, and cutting down the engineering cost, we propose the design scheme of 37.5 m tall high and steep slope reinforced side slope for the land formation in Chongqing Guoyuan port phase two project upstream the Yangtze River. Based on the centrifugal model test and numerical analysis, we analyze the stability of the existing No.2 and No.6 side slopes side slopes with and without reinforced slopes respectively and under the condition of slope rate variation and filling materials variation, so as to optimize the design and guide the construction.

Abstract:Regarding the sloping submerged dikes as an object of study, using physical model test method, we research the wave dissipation characteristics of submerged breakwater by selecting different relative inundated depths and rough permeability coefficients of surface protection structure type. Firstly, we analyze the changing rule of the transmission coefficient of the submerged breakwater due to various factors under regular wave, get the degree of influence of various factors on the submerged transmission coefficient, and obtain the variation law of the wave height along the ducts near the submerged breakwater. Secondly, using the same research methods of regular waves, we analyze the changing rule on the variation of transmission coefficient of the submerged breakwater under irregular waves, we get the degree of influence of various factors on the transmission coefficient of the submerged breakwater, and obtain the change of the wave along the way near the submerged breakwater.

Abstract:According to the samples of oil spills loss data from ships in China, this paper considers to separate the data into the main part and the tail part, and constructs a doubly-truncated distribution - GPD (DTD-GPD) model to model the two parts of the loss data. The results show that the loss data of oil spills from ship are not normally distributed but has a“sharp peak, heavy tail”feature, and the DTD-GPD distribution fitting effect is better than the traditional distribution.

Abstract:The adhesion of soil is a very important technical indicator in the dredging engineering, which can provide reasonable suggestions for the selection and operation technique of digging machine and offer design and construction parameters for the excavating and jetting-filling projects of channel, harbor basin, but the research of adhesion is still at a preliminary stage now. Seven typical soils in dredging engineering were chosen to do physical property and cohesion tests, connecting the physical indexes and cohesion of soil at soil mechanics level and discussing the adhesion mechanism of soil at soil properties level. The results showed that, the higher the clay content of soil, the larger the adhesion. The adhesion increased gradually with the increasing of moisture content and reach peak when the moisture content was closed to liquid limit and then decreased gradually. The generation and variation mechanism of adhesion were mainly due to the change of properties and content of bound water, which caused the generation, development, equilibrium and damage of adhesion and dissociation force in water-soil-electrolyte system. The results also showed that, the adhesion of soil in natural moisture content was about 5 times the plasticity index numerically. In dredging engineering, the area with large thickness muck should be excavated with water filling and for soil containing more gravel, sand and silt drainage measure should be enhanced to increase the digging and spoil disposal speed.

Abstract:According to the measured water level and wave height during typhoon period, we study the characteristics of set-up induced by storm surge, analyze the relativity between storm surge water level and wave height using probability and statistical methods, and establish the combined distribution between set-up and wave height. A calculation method is provided to consider the combination effects of set-up by storm surges and wave height during typhoon period.

Abstract:Taking the 200 000 DWT waterway dredging project of Fangcheng port for example, we analyze key factors influencing the dredging productivity in view of difficult degrees of rock excavation on severe cutter suction dredger‘Tianjing’, carry out a statistical analysis on the rock property indices including saturated uniaxial compressive strength, RQD, etc., and estimate the rock mass integrity index by the empirical formula. According to the rock properties of dredging engineering, we present the basic quality index of modified value reflecting the overall characteristics of dredged rock mass [BQ]TH. Based on the least square method, we establish the empirical formula on [BQ]TH and dredging productivity, forecast the dredging productivity, and obtain a good result using the empirical formula and back-propagation network.

Comparing the experimental results with those of predecessors, this paper analyzes the differences between the results of the experiment and the predecessors. Moreover, a useful wave transmission coefficient empirical formula is put forward based on Lapa Formula.

Abstract:To promote the efficiency of the archipelago shipping logistics network, a three-level model based on the hub-spoke network is put forward. Seven indices, which are analyzed by principal component analysis method, are selected to determine the level of logistics nodes in shipping logistics network. With an archipelago in the south of China as applying background, the index system is used to determine the ranking of the islands and the three-level shipping logistics network is constructed. The result shows that: the three- level shipping logistics network can promote the scale benefit and save the logistics cost; the islands in archipelago can be divided into three levels by the index system to assist the layout planning of archipelago shipping logistics network.

Abstract:In this article, the dynamic responses of offshore deepwater light pier under extreme waves are investigated. According to the codes of harbor hydrology ( JTJ 213—1998), fluid-structure coupling effect is taken into account, comparative analysis is made for the responses with different pile-soil impedances. Results show that pile-soil interaction has great impaction to the response of the pier in open sea environment. When take the pile-soil interaction into consideration, the response of the pier is only 45%~65% of that without pile-soil interaction. The dynamic response of the pier is greater under random wave than regular wave, and the response is much bigger especially with high wave frequency. By these conclusions, the impedance under more realistic two phase saturation medium is advised. For that response will be much bigger when wave frequency close to structure natural frequency, it should be pay more attention when the pier subjected to random wave especially with high frequency.

Abstract:The structural durability limit states which can be used in the structure design are proposed by summarizing existing definition about durability and durability limit states and considering the characteristics of harbor structures. For the ordinary RC elements and pre-stressing beams and slabs made with deformed bars, it is proposed that the threshold values of decreased bearing capacity, increased deflection and longitudinal crack width are taken as the control parameters for the structural durability limit states. For pre-stressing RC components with steel wires and pre-stressing RC piles with deformed bars, the time at depassivation of reinforcement bars is taken as the durability limit state.

Abstract:Being used to calculate the foundation stress, the method of actual criterion assumes that the rubble bed is rigid. Although it refers to the weight of the rubble bed and the stress on the top, the earth pressure in front and at the back of the rubble bed are not considered. With the development of the great gravity wharf, the depth of rubble bed increases, so the earth pressure in front and at the back of the rubble bed also increases. Hence, there must be some differences between the criterion method and the actual situation. The paper analyzes the effect of the earth pressure on the distribution of foundation stress by systemic study and calculation. According to the result of engineering FEM program PLAXIS, a more rational method with three controlling points is put forward.

Abstract:In the mooring design for the floating pier, in order to deepen the design depth of water, suspension weight is often needed in the anchor chain. But there is no exposition on the design of anchor chain with suspension weight, which determines the pier apron depth and relates to the adaptability of the pier. This paper mainly expounds the relationship between the suspension weight and the draft and the calculation method, to guarantee the reasonability and reliability of the floating pier design.

Abstract:This paper presents the structure of front sheet pile wall with rear piled platform, which can be used for narrow land area, large cantilever and silt foundation with serious liquefaction conditions. The main features of the structure are as follows: The front sheet pile wall is steel tube type combined steel sheet pile; The rear part is piled platform with PHC fork pile anchorage; The poling board is set at the back of the piled platform; The drainage hole is set in the steel sheet pile around the extreme low water level; The silt foundation is treated by vibration shock process under water.

Abstract:As per the requirements of reforming the existing generic bulk berth to specialized bulk grain and new grain loader/unloader, foundation shall be constructed on the existing quay wall in the Port of Fujairah in UAE. Considering the rock mount behind the existing sheet pile wall, the construction of common rail foundation structures is difficult and the piling works will damage the sheet pile. According to the feature of the project, we put forward the raft slab foundation type structure and analyze the raft slab structure & existing sheet pile wall with finite element software Axis VM and PLAXIS. The effect of wharf renovation and installation of grain loader/unloader are satisfactory.

Abstract:The mechanical properties and durability of marine wharf concrete members constructed in 1997 in the east of China after 11years’service was widely surveyed and researched. The results show as follows: Compressive strength of members and concrete cover of members can meet the design demand but member’s resistivity is small; There is correlation between free chloride concentration and total chloride ions concentration and free chloride’s diffusion coefficient is smaller than total chloride ions; Surface chloride ions concentration reduces as elevation increases; The quality and corrosion resistance to chloride salt of members is different. The surveying results may make for establishing marine concrete standard.

Abstract:We must take further channel regulation measures to improve the navigation environment of the hydro-junction, increase the shipping capacity of the original first-line ship lock by reconstruction and extension, and add the additional second-line ship lock on left bank of the new ship lock. According to the test results of the overall fixed-bed model of navigation building on Baishiyao hydro-junction, we study the navigation conditions after the reconstruction and extension project. For the unfavorable flow condition, we put forward reasonable and effective measures, which may be used as reference for similar projects.

Abstract:Shichuan Diaoqiao shoal is one of the main navigation-hampering shoals in the Daxia reservoir region in the Yellow River, which badly affects the ships’safe sailing across this river section. Based on the analysis of the nature of navigation obstruction, and combining with the river model test research, we analyze the flow condition for navigation after regulation, compare a variety of regulation schemes, and determine to adopt the measure of dredge-cutting and building submerged dam. The navigation condition is improved remarkably after implementation of the project and the regulation effect is satisfactory. It may serve as reference for the regulation of similar shoals.

Abstract:In order to guarantee the normal operation of Yanjiatai sluice gate, a gap exists in the layout scheme of the waterway regulation project of Zhoutian river. Due to the broadened local waterway, sediment deposits to form shallow ridges. A filter dam will be constructed in Zhoutian river (between Changmenxi and Xiongjiazhou of the waterway regulation project of Jingjiang, the Yangtze River) to reduce sediment deposition and minimize relevant effects on Yanjiatai sluice gate. The research focuses on the layout and structure type design, and provides a theoretical basis for the successful implementation of this project.

Abstract:This article puts forward the concept of service level of inland waterway and indicators based on the traffic engineering theory and inland waterway characteristics. According to standard ship of inland water, it quantifies the service level, and confirms the standard of it. It establishes the calculation model of inland waterway capacity by the ship traffic flow and waterway service level, and calculates the inland waterway capacity by the historical data of Huaihe river, which is compared with the cargo density on the design year. The application results show that the method is suitable for the inland waterway planning and construction, and the assessment of applications as well. It can provide theoretical reference for the channel maintenance or upgrading.

Abstract:As a typical straight braided river in the middle reach of the Yangtze River, Yanglinyan waterway is well in channel condition for years. But the development of channel condition is worsening after the impoundment of the Three Gorges reservoir when water and sediment conditions were changed. This paper studies the water and sediment characteristics, riverbed evolution law, train of thought on the regulation, and regulation measures by means of physical model test and theory analysis, which may serve as reference for similar river regulations. The result shows that the location and shape changing of Nanyangzhou head directly impacts the riverbed evolution and channel condition, so the flexible mattress beach protection belts shall be adopted to protect the head.

Abstract:This article researches the embedded ECS which is based on the digital hydrographic chart of the Changjiang River (version 2.0), completes the system module division and function design, discusses its key technology, realizes the software system under the Eclipse environment of Linux and carries out a practical test. The results indicate that the system is stable, efficient and able to fully demonstrate the real-time data provided by the Changjiang River waterway electronic public services platform and can guarantee the safety of ships during the voyage.

Abstract:This paper presents the design of a new three-dimensional reinforcement system, HIDAS Reinforced System. The paper introduces the framework of the reinforced system, and describes the system design structure, including the reinforced object organizational structure, a variety of reinforced mode the system provides and reinforced process management, existing reinforced collision detection processing, as well as reinforced update mechanism management, and reinforcement model plotting. Three-dimensional reinforcement design is more consistent with the designer’s thinking habits. Abstract:The FEM model of laterally loaded super long pile in double-layered soil is built by ANSYS, based on which, the soil resistance under the pile-soil interaction and the moment distribution and shaft deflection of super long pile are simulated. The distribution of soil resistance along pile and its contribution to the bearing capacity are discussed in detail. And, the lateral properties of super long pile under various horizontal loads, elastic modulus ratio of double-layered soil and length-diameter ratio are also discussed. The results show that, to a certain depth, the radial distribution of vertical side friction, tangential friction and soil resistance along the pile present different curves. And to the same position in the circumferential direction, the maximum soil resistance exists in the pile head. The moment distribution and shaft deflection along the pile decrease as a result of elastic modulus ratio's increase. The laterally loaded super long pile exists effective length. The optimal length-diameter ratio leads to the optimal performance. There exists inflection point and zero displacement point along the pile body.

Abstract:For the single pile’s stability problems possibly encountered during wharf construction, this article analyses the difference of instability mechanism between elastic long-pile and rigid pile when they are in a state of single pile, presents respective stability calculation method and key steps of single pile at diverse geologic conditions, and provides the proposed value of stability safety factor for the rigid pile on the basis of project case and model test. The results may serve as reference for associated engineering technicians in the practice of wharf pile foundation construction.

Abstract:Based on a typical project of foundation pit supporting in Zhuhai port, this paper analyzes the technological requirements of SMW method under complicated geological conditions, discusses the lateral displacement of steel cement treated column and groundwater level changes in soft soil-layers according to monitoring results during and after the excavation, and proposes accordingly the alarming value of wall deformation rate in experience under the condition, which can provide valuable reference for similar excavation works.

Abstract:Macmat-R was first applied to the beach protection of Madangnan Waterway Regulation Engineering of the Yangtze River. The normal geomat is frequently damaged before its protection performance limit is reached, when applied in the water erosion control. According to the research of Maccaferri Group and Utah State University, when geomat is reinforced with wire mesh, the damage resistance can be significantly improved and the performance of the geomat can be fully played. Apart from this, the beach protection also depends on the stability of Macmat-R. Due to the light weight of the Macmat-R, the quality control on the bed flattening, intermediate pinning, overlay and lacing should be kept strictly. A satisfactory effect has been achieved at the very first application.

Abstract:The 32m box girder model is an integrated rigid template assembled with segments, and the full set of model is composed of four parts including the bottom molds, side molds, end molds and the internal mold. The assembling quality is crucial to the appearance quality of the assembled model. This paper analyzes the quality problems during assembling of the 32 m box girder model and finds out the key factors affecting the assembling quality, and gives corresponding control methods, so as to improve the assembling quality of the model.
