      Abstract (874) HTML (0) PDF 2.60 M (75) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:In order to study the specialties of wave slamming on open-piled structures, two-dimensional regular wave numerical models were established based on the software FLUENT. RANS equations were adopted. The standard k-ε equations were used to close the Reynolds equations. VOF method was used to reconstruct the free surface. Through three typical cases of wave slamming on open-piled structures were reproduced, the models were verified by experimental data and the average of peak impact pressure was chosen as the characteristic impact pressure. Then with plentiful simulation the parametric studies had been carried out for different wave steepness, structure geometry and the distance between underside of structure and still water level. Good agreements between the numerical and experimental results were obtained.

    • On ship current force under different current angles

      2012(9):12-17.

      Abstract (1914) HTML (0) PDF 2.99 M (73) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:The current force on a ship is one of the most important design factors of open sea terminal. With the comparison on calculation method in Load Code for Harbor Engineering (JTS 144-1—2010), OPTIMOOR calculation software, BS 6349, Mooring Equipment Guidelines (OCIMF-MEG3—2008) and MIL-HDBK in a same example condition, the calculation results are analyzed and verified by physical model test. The study result shows that the error of calculation in Load Code for Harbour Engineering (JTS 144-1—2010) is large, when the current angle is between 15°and 165°, but some foreign standards’ calculation results are identical with the physical model test data. Therefore, it is better that transverse current force is calculated by the formula in BS 6349 and longitudinal current force is calculated by the formula in Mooring Equipment Guidelines (OCIMF-MEG3—2008).

    • Numerical simulation of tidal wave deformation downstream sluice in estuary

      2012(9):18-23.

      Abstract (1367) HTML (0) PDF 3.76 M (64) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Siltation in the rivers downstream of floodgates is serious in China, making the discharge capacity of rivers decrease obviously and threatening the flood control in upper rivers. Tidal wave deformation is one conclusive dynamic factor leading to siltation downstream floodgates in estuaries. The hydrodynamic characteristics of tidal wave deformation are different with different river lengths downstream floodgates, so the fluvial processes and morphology characteristics are also different. A 2D numerical model is established to simulate the tidal wave deformation with different-length river downstream the floodgate. The changes of tidal level, flow velocity and phase difference are simulated before and after the construction of floodgate. The length of river downstream floodgates influences tidal wave deformation obviously, and several conclusions are obtained to provide a theoretical basis for the prediction and analysis of the siltation characteristics in the lower reach caused by floodgates with different lengths in estuaries.

      2012(9):30-34.

      Abstract (1391) HTML (0) PDF 2.36 M (80) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Based on the observation of the current at several stations conducted synchronically in winter and summer respectively in Lianyungang nearshore area, we analyze the variation characteristics of tidal current, and the type, motion form, maximum velocity and direction of tidal current with the tidal current elliptic factors calculated by the quasi-harmonic method. The results show that the velocity and duration of flood current and ebb current are different. The tidal current is classified as regular semidiurnal tidal current in shallow water. The tidal current is rectilinear current in the nearshore area. With increasing depth, the rotating flow is apparent, and most directions are counter-clockwise. The variation of the maximum velocity and direction are obvious in different seasons.

      2012(9):35-39.

      Abstract (1275) HTML (0) PDF 2.75 M (76) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:In the use of a tidal mathematical model to optimize the layout of the encircled breakwater in Xuwei port, the maximal velocity in the port area is considered as a very important index. It is found through analysis that the maximum velocity is related to the waterside area, the flow section area of port entrance, and the tidal range and last of flood tide. According to the simulation results of the mathematical model, we develop an empirical formula to calculate the maximum velocity, which can be used to estimate the design plan in preliminary evaluation.

      2012(9):65-69.

      Abstract (464) HTML (0) PDF 2.19 M (67) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:The checking of rock slope’s plane sliding includes the internal structure of rock mass surface checking and rock shear strength calculation. The sliding of homogeneous rock slope is due to insufficient shear strength. By assuming the relationship between the failure surface and the internal friction angle, we probe into the relationship between the failure angle and internal friction angle, and then propose the simplified estimation formula. Comparing the analytical solution with the numerical solution, we know that the simplified formula meets the engineering requirements, and the conclusion may serve as a reference for the practical engineering.

This method has been used in oceanography and coastal dynamics widely. In this paper, the energy balance equation considering the diffraction effect is used as the control equation to calculate the random wave propagation and transformation. Based on the control equation, a numerical model is established considering comprehensive effects of wave shoaling, refraction, diffraction, reflection and breaking. The random wave propagation and transformation in the harbor basin of Weihai dockyard is simulated using this model. Example results show that the calculated values are in good agreement with the experimental values under the same considered cases. It indicates that the model is practical and reliable to stimulate the nearshore random wave propagation and transformation.

      2012(9):87-92.

      Abstract (750) HTML (0) PDF 2.46 M (57) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:This paper analyzes the shortage of traditional wharf mooring berthing facilities in upstream of the Yangtze River and proposes the berthing row pier structure based on Chongqing Naxigou wharf project. It is shown that the berthing row pier increases the bent spacing and reduces the underwater workload, thus it can solve the problem of tight operating days because of the raising of reservoir elevation and change the traditional “close-row piles” . It also solves the problem of river siltation near the wharf. The finite element analysis result on the berthing row pier shows that the berthing row piers are set reasonably and reduce the distribution loads on other bents.

      Abstract (1232) HTML (0) PDF 2.67 M (49) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:The stability and treatment of cataclinal hard-rock slope are very important to construction of highway. This paper deeply analyses the topography, lithologic and tectonic features of stratum, hydro-geologic conditions in one slope. Numerical simulation software UDEC is used to simulate the deformation and failure characteristics of the slope and get the deformation and failure mechanism of it. The result indicates that the joint of weathering and unloading of the slope are developed because of long-time weathering, and the joints are filled with silty clay, thus the shear strength reduces greatly and this leads to the sliding of the moderate-dip cataclinal slopes. The conclusion may be useful for the stability assessment and regulation measures of similar engineering. Furthermore, it proves that the discrete element method is very effective to numerical simulation on bedding rock slopes.

Abstract:According to the standard when calculating the thickness of the concrete slab, the value is 400mm in the container yard in berth No. 6 & berth No.7 of Dayaowan port area of Dalian port. But in the practical project, it was only 200 mm. The reach stacker was not allowed to work here by the original design. However, the concrete slab was not damaged after a lengthy operation of the reach stacker virtually. Different pavement designs were compared by calculations and the conclusion was that the reason why the thickness of slab was overlarge was that the modulus of resilience of earth subgrade adopted under the rigid pavement was too small.
