Abstract:Shashi river reach is a famous blocking waterway of the middle Yangtze River. According to the General Outline of the Development and Plan of the Main Waterway of the Yangtze River, the construction standard in 2020 here is 3.5 m×150 m×1 000 m, and the navigation rate is 98%. In consideration of the operation of Three Gorges project and external factors such as flood prevention, management of Shashi river reach is underway adhering to the principle of comprehensive management and progressive implementation. The first-stage construction and Lalinzhou protection construction was launched in progression since 2009, which improved the navigation condition greatly and achieved good effects. This paper analyzes the changes of the waterway and navigation conditions before and after the project based on the existing researching achievements and project data after project implementation, and puts forward ideas on follow-up regulation according to the general regulation idea and existing problems in this river reach.

Abstract:The development of branch channel will certainly destabilize the navigation condition in main channel. Hence the restrictive measures on developing branch channels are carried out in recent waterway regulation projects. This paper carries out a comparison study on flow and sediment transport characteristics based on the before and after project observed data in Majiazui channel. The flow dynamic conditions of branch channel development and the effect of the controlling projects are also analyzed from the standing point of the adaptation of river dynamic. Moreover, the deficiency of the Majiazui waterway regulation project and the improvement measures are also presented. The cognitions of branch channel waterway regulation are also summarized based on above analyses.

Abstract:Based on the physical model, we analyze the feature of flow and sediment movement and study regulation scheme. After project implementation, this plan has an immediate effect on basis of surveying the practical ability of beach passing of ship. It can clearly be seen it is very effective to implement the scheme that the gravel rapid should be dredged at the upstream and reclaimed at the downstream on the dry rapids.

Abstract:In July 1997, Robert Davinroy published his paper Application of Micro-scale River Engineering Model in Mississippi River in the journal of Civil Engineering, in which he introduced a new patented technique for Micro Scale Physical Modeling. A physical model with relatively big scale and large variability was adapted to simulate hydrodynamics and sediment transport in rivers. This technique has been applied to many research projects successfully, such as channel regulation in Mississippi and Missouri, investigation of living environment of fish and wild animals. The experiment cycle is as short as numerical models and it’s more intuitive. Besides it can also provide good accuracy even compared with those large scale river engineering models. Because there are not many details given in his article, we will continue to investigate this technique based on his introduction in order to provide reference for waterway regulation engineering projects of the Yangtze River.

Abstract:This paper presents a high-resolution two-dimensional finite-volume numerical model with twoorder accuracy for flow characteristics at open channel junction. The governing equations of the model comprise the shallow water equations with bed slope and resistance source. A high-resolution numerical method governing equations, which may accurately capture shocks, is adopted. To alleviate the problems associated with numerical instabilities due to small water depths near a wet/dry boundary, the friction source terms are treated in a fully implicit way. Finally, the measured data for open channel junction is used in the present model. Results indicate that present model may well simulate the flow characteristics at open channel junction.

Abstract:The inland river quota was used widely in the middle-lower Changjiang waterway regulation project since promulgated from1998, and achieved good results at cost control. The inland river quota also exposed some problems, such as smaller construction ship and machine, lower labor cost unit price, and lower construction mechanization level. Moreover, new structure and new material quota can’t meet the real demand. Related solutions for these problems are proposed based on a discussion, which can provide reference for the improvement of the inland river quota and serve the Changjiang waterway regulation project better.
