Abstract:
The problem that the sea and rail transport are adjacent but not connected or connected but not smoothly connected with the “last kilometer” becomes increasingly prominent as the volume of sea-rail intermodal transport keeps growing. By investigating the automated container terminal in Qinzhou Port, this paper focuses on a design scheme for sea-rail intermodal transport. It explores a new mode providing seamless connection of sea-rail intermodal transport for automated container terminals and describes its design principles, feasibility of the air-track transport system, route planning, main components, and advantages. The results show that the new mode can effectively solve various problems, such as the time-consuming switching link between the two collection and distribution modes of sea and rail, failure to genuinely achieve efficiency and smoothness, influence on the timeliness of sea-rail intermodal transport, and increase in the transport cost.
