In order to scientifically evaluate the effects of the implementation of the water channel improvement project for the Yandao waterway from Chibi to Panjiawan in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River,this paper comprehensively analyzes the variation in four aspects including the change in scour and fill,the diversion ratio of the canal,the conditions of the waterway,and the stabilization of the buildings since the implementation of the project.The analysis results show that the implementation of the project has stabilized the pattern of the continental beach and river potential of the Yanziwo waterway,curbed the trend of unfavorable changes in the fairway,and further stabilized the position of the left channel as the main channel. The waterway scale has reached the designed standard.The research result lays a foundation for further improving the channel scale of the Yanziwo waterway and accumulates experience for the management of similar branching river reaches.
