The port-centered industry is an important engine for promoting the economic development of coastal areas in China and occupies an important strategic position in regional economic development. However,in terms of spatial scope, the utilization of water transport in the economic development of coastal provinces is different, which reflects significant spatial and industrial differences. On the basis of collecting and sorting out the input and output data of 142 departments in 13 coastal provinces and cities in 2017,this paper uses the input-output model to analyze the spatial and industrial characteristics of water transport utilization in coastal provinces and cities in China, explore the differences in basic flow, industrial influence, industrial sensitivity, and other aspects of the water transport industry in coastal provinces and cities, and summarize the spatial and industrial characteristics of water transport utilization in coastal areas. In addition, the paper puts forward relevant suggestions on the development of the port-centered industry in coastal provinces and cities in China during the “14th Five Year Plan” period, which can provide a reference for the relevant research on the port-centered industry in China.
