Abstract:With the maturity of the three major container shipping routes in the world and the innovation of ocean shipping technology,Port Louis, which was once a resupply point for the Eurasian route around the Cape of Good Hope, faces opportunities and challenges in the new international container shipping structure. This article studies the orientation of Port Louis’s container business development under the current situation, analyzes the impact of changes in internal and external situations on Port Louis’s container business, and judges the competitiveness of Port Louis’s container business and the possibility of the construction of a future international container hub port. The analysis shows that Port Louis has the conditions to develop into a regional intertwined transit hub port, but its current development bottlenecks are mainly focused on the restrictions on offshore operating conditions, domestic companies’monopoly operation of container terminals, etc.Suggestions for follow-up development are given. This study has reference value for accurately grasping the prospects of the African container shipping market and expanding port projects in new regions.
