While “the Belt & Road” initiative develops,the Chinese design institutes participate more and more in the master planning work of foreign green field port projects.As no published guidance to explain the methodology and principles of master planning work in this area till now,we introduce the content and implementation process of the master planning work for the foreign green field port project based on the work practice in Djibouti and Indonesia.The principles concluded are as follows:following the natural terrain and protection of natural environment;balance of dredging and backfill;flexible development and focusing on the exploitativeness of initiative phase;intensive arrangement according to the requirement and clear phasing plan;guarantee of self-survival for each phase while considering the comprehensive economic benefit of whole project.These conclusions of project practice will provide reference for the future master planning work for foreign green field port projects.
