Abstract:For the seismic design of revetment of the offshore artificial island in strong earthquake areas, when the method of quasi-static analysis and safety factor control is applied, the structure would be uneconomical, while the displacement analysis method can be used. The allowable displacement limit is sensitive to the engineering cost,so an appropriate allowable displacement limit is crucial for design;however, there are no clear provisions in the existing standards or manuals for reference. So,we compare the international standards or manuals such as ISO,PIANC,OCDI,FEMA,Alaska Geotechnical Commission and other related manuals on allowable displacement limit for the seismic design, and propose the displacement control limit suitable for Manila Waterfront City Reclamation Project based on actual design conditions of the project. Furthermore,we analyze the displacement sensitivity under different peak accelerations and different critical accelerations based on software SLIDE. The research results may serve as reference for the allowable displacement limit of similar offshore artificial islands in strong earthquake areas.
