Abstract:The Mononobe-Okabe equation is widely used for determining seismic earth pressures, but it is incapable to calculate some earth pressures under limited conditions, such as the stratified soils which include sand and clay behind the sheet pile wall. There is no uniform rule for this calculation in Chinese and international codes. We summarize calculation methods for seismic earth pressure of stratified soil, and find the differences between Chinese and international codes. Therefore we propose the generalized limit equilibrium method based on the previous studies, obtain the calculation method for seismic earth pressure of stratified soil by SLOPE software at high-earthquake zone, and verify the method by an abroad marine project. It can provide reference for the similar projects.
