Abstract:Three categories of toe mound design of deepwater breakwater of Sri Lanka port city are explored.During the breakwater detailed design the rockfill toe mound with V-shaped trench is used.During construction,it is found that breakwater construction schedule is severely restricted to the seaside toe rock mound:1) with existing equipment and technology,the construction efficiency of the V- shape trench in placing the first-row chinesepode is low;2) the supply of 2~5 t toe rock is insufficient.Therefore,alternative schemes for the toe design are proposed accordingly:1) the first row of armour blocks is placed flatly and reinforced by the toe rockfill in the front;2)3 rows of chinesepode units are placed on the flat rock apron in place of the 2~5 t toe reinforcement.2D physical model test is carried out to verify the feasibility of the alternative solutions.
