Abstract:The seismic stability of bank slopes adjacent to inland high-piled wharves is directly linked to port operational safety and post-earthquake functional recoverability, while conventional assessment methods based on the factor of safety are unable to effectively capture the performance evolution of such slopes under seismic actions. To address this limitation,a three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element model of the integrated wharf-bank slope system is developed, taking the framed high-piled wharf at Gele central operation zone of Dongchuan Port as the research object.Nonlinear time-history analyses are carried out under three seismic intensity levels:frequent,design-basis and rare earthquakes.Based on performance-based seismic philosophy, permanent deformation is taken as the core indicator for evaluating bank slope stability.Corresponding allowable displacement limits are set in accordance with multi-level performance objectives, and the performance state of the bank slope under each seismic action level is evaluated accordingly. Results show that under three levels of seismic actions, the maximum horizontal acceleration amplification factors of the wharf-bank slope system along the downslope direction are 1.38,1.73 and 2.08 corresponding to frequent,design-basis and rare earthquakes, while the maximum permanent horizontal displacements of the bank slope reach 1.9,20.3 and 70.5 cm.All displacement values are less than the prescribed allowable limits for each performance level, which meets the predefined performance objectives. The findings provide quantifiable technical basis and feasible implementation routes for the performance-based seismic design of wharf-bank slope coupled systems.
